The 2011 Volkswagen Eos has much to offer for those seeking top-down fun. A stylish combination of sporty performance and a folding hard top means the Eos can be a convertible comfortable for year-round use. As in years past, the Eos is offered in two trims, dubbed Komfort and Lux. All Eos models are front-wheel drive and powered by VW's excellent direct-injected turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. The DOHC unit produces 200 hp and 207 ft-lb of torque. It's enough to give the Eos plenty of pep, while also offering decent fuel economy, which was estimated at 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. In Komfort models, a 6-speed manual transmission is standard, with VW's slick DSG twin-clutch automatic optional. The DSG is standard in Lux models. The Eos features a retractable hardtop, which takes just 25 seconds to deploy. Cleverly engineered into that top is a power sunroof, which adds to the car's unique functionality. Despite its open cabin, the Eos possesses a rigid chassis that allows for responsive and predictable handling, top up or down. Much of this is also due to the car's advanced independent suspension. With the extra bracing, however, the Eos tips the scales at a rather stately 3,500 pounds. In Komfort trim, the Eos offers standard 16-inch alloy wheels, remote entry, power driver's seat with a faux leather surface, power mirrors with integrated LED turn signals, cruise control, leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 6-CD changer and heated windshield wipers. Lux cars come equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, leather seating, interior walnut trim, and a 600-watt stereo. Navigation, Xenon headlights and parking sensors are optional on both trim levels. Safety features abound in the Eos. Front, side and side curtain airbags are all standard, as is an automatic rollover protection system. Anti-lock brakes and VW's electronic stability program (ESP) are also standard.
